Lahti Energy Choice: supporting citizens’ choices for more energy efficient buildings

The project ‘Energy Choice’, was launched by the city of Lahti in 2016 to encourage citizens to renovate their properties through providing information on the potential financial and CO2 savings as a result of adopting energy-efficient solutions.

Mur|Mur : Retrofitting private buildings to reduce energy consumption

Mur|Mur is a major private housing renovation scheme developed by Grenoble Metropole. The first campaign aimed at reducing energy consumption through the retrofitting of condominiums built between 1945 and 1975. 4,467 dwellings in 84 condominiums were renovated, and in total 173 condominiums benefited from tailored support because of Mur|Mur from 2010 to 2014. The renovations resulted in 5,200 tonnes of saved CO2 emissions, which translates to savings of €135-250 per year.

Dublin, think energy

Think Energy encourages energy efficiency by working on two linked fronts: To provide information so people can make intelligent choices about energy use, and to change the culture around energy saving. This case study deals with a one-year campaign in Dublin’s civic offices and a permanent measure of equipping public libraries with ‘energy savings kits.'

Cities leading the way on climate action

Cities are climate leaders. 64% of EUROCITIES members have already committed to reach carbon neutrality by 2050. Among them, 12 cities have even committed to reach neutrality before 2040. And climate mitigation is only one side of the coin; 87.5% of our cities have adopted climate adaptation strategies to adapt to the impact of climate change and to protect their citizens.

No debts for energy in Almere

The municipality coordinates between different administrations and suppliers to prevent vulnerable households from getting into debt from their energy supply. People receive financial and energy counselling, and social housing units are equipped with solar panels to generate energy at a reduced cost.
