  • environment

The Noise Working Group was held in Zagreb from 11 - 12 May. Around 15 cities visited the Croatian capital to discuss the issue of noise in urban areas under the chairmanship of Henk Wolfert from the city of Rotterdam.

The meeting was an opportunity for cities to exchange best practices and showcase their latest activities regarding noise reduction. A representative from the Croatian Ministry of Health participated, stressing the importance of tackling the noise issue, considering the effects it has on the citizens’ health.

A fieldtrip to RIMAC automobile, an innovation company focusing on high-performance electric cars allowed participants to see the progress that the automobile sector is doing in producing less noisy transportation.

The second day saw the participation of DG ENVI, represented by Marco Paviotti, who discussed the results of the REFIT of the Environmental Noise Directive (END), as well as Dorota Jarosinska from the World Health Organization (WHO), who has informed the working group about the state of play of the WHO’s stakeholders guidelines on noise and health.

The WG Noise agreed to produce a position paper on the Environmental Noise Directive REFIT results.
